Adding a main domain
From Websites & Domains, the add button attaches a new domain name to your hosting. Enter the domain name and the document root you want for its files (Plesk suggests a default folder, which you can change).
Pointing the domain at Plesk
Adding it in Plesk isn't enough to make the site reachable: the domain must also point at the server, through the DNS configured at your registrar (where the domain name was bought).
Two possible methods:
- Change the domain's nameservers (NS) to those supplied by Plesk, which then manages the whole DNS zone;
- Add an A record pointing directly at the server's IP address, keeping the registrar's DNS.
Adding a subdomain
For a subdomain (shop.example.com, say), the procedure is similar but starts from the main domain already added: select Add a subdomain, choose its name and its document root, either its own or shared with the main domain.
DNS propagation
A DNS change is never instant: propagation can take from a few minutes to 24–48 hours depending on intermediate DNS servers and their cache duration (TTL). During that window, some visitors may see the old server and others the new one.
