Creating a mailbox
From the Mail section, select the domain concerned then create a new account, choosing the address you want ([email protected]) and a password. A storage quota can be set per mailbox, depending on the space available on the subscription.
Setting up a mail client
Once the mailbox is created, configure your mail client (Outlook, Thunderbird, your phone's mail app) with:
- Incoming server (IMAP): keeps mail on the server, synchronised across all your devices — recommended in the vast majority of cases.
- Outgoing server (SMTP): needed to send mail from that address.
The exact settings (server addresses, ports, encryption) are shown in Plesk itself, in the detail of the mailbox you created — they depend on your hosting's configuration.
Creating a forward
A forward automatically sends any mail received at one address on to another, without creating a storage mailbox. Useful for a generic address ([email protected]) forwarded to your existing personal mailbox.
Creating an alias
An alias lets one mailbox receive mail at several different addresses, without duplicating storage. Unlike a forward, the alias stays attached to the same mailbox: you reply from the main one.
Anti-spam filters
Plesk includes an anti-spam filter configurable per mailbox, with an adjustable sensitivity level and the option to define sender allow/block lists — useful if legitimate mail regularly ends up in spam, or the reverse.
