Using the file manager

Browse, edit and compress your server's files from the panel, and when to prefer an SFTP client.

Updated

The built-in manager

The panel's built-in file manager lets you browse, edit, rename, compress and delete your server's files straight from the browser, with no external client needed.

It's handy for small quick changes — editing a configuration file, deleting a plugin, renaming a folder — but stays limited for large volumes.

Editing a file

Navigate to the file and click it to open the built-in editor right in the browser. Remember to save your changes, then restart the server: most configurations only take effect on restart, not live.

Compression and archives

The manager can compress several files or folders into a .zip or .tar.gz archive, and conversely extract an archive uploaded to the server. Useful for transferring a complete configuration as a single file rather than folder by folder.

Using an SFTP client

To transfer a large number of files or big volumes (a complete Minecraft world, a heavy resource pack), an SFTP client is preferable to the web manager. The SFTP credentials are the same as the panel's; the SFTP address and port are shown in the server details, SFTP section.

Permissions and protected folders

Some system files tied to the internal workings of the server image (not the game configuration itself) may be write-protected — that's normal and deliberate, to avoid accidentally breaking the runtime environment.
