Why use sub-users
Rather than sharing your own panel credentials with a friend or co-administrator, Pterodactyl lets you add sub-users on a specific server, each with their own credentials and permissions limited to that server.
Adding a sub-user
From the server's Sub-users tab, add the email address of the person to invite. If they don't have a panel account yet, one is created automatically and an invitation email is sent.
Choosing permissions
Permissions are broken down by category: server control (start/stop), files, databases, backups, network, task scheduling, managing other sub-users. Each ticked box grants one precise right — nothing is granted by default beyond simply seeing the server.
A few common splits:
- Trusted moderator: server control + console, with no access to files or backups.
- Co-administrator: most permissions, except managing other sub-users and deleting the server.
- Read-only access: console in read mode, with no right to act — useful for monitoring without risk of a mistake.
Removing access
Removing a sub-user immediately cuts their access to that specific server, without affecting the rest of their panel account if they have access to other servers elsewhere.
